The year was 1944. “Missing in Action since October 31” was the message received Thanksgiving Day by the family of Sp. 3cl Manning as they waited for him to arrive on leave for the holiday. Later the family was informed that he had been killed in a plane crash in the European area on October 30. He is buried at the Normandy American Cemetery in St. Laurent-sur-Mer, France.
