Attended Rye Country Day, Mamaroneck High School, the New York Military Academy and the University of Pennsylvania. 

Pfc. Theile was killed in a jeep accident in Italy on April 8, 1944, while serving with the Army Air Force Ordinance. 

In 1936, William made national news when, as a 15 year old, he ran away from his luxurious home and lifestyle in Mamaroneck to live on his own in a cheap hotel in Chicago. Fortunately, he was located and brought home safely one month later. According to the Chicago Daily Times, William stated “I was fed up on society life and decided to make my own way in the world”.
